=========================================================================== 6 Apr 2006 In an effort to get some stuff on SF, I'm zipping up this directory and posting it to the release system. There is a basic walk through below on how to install and configure the Windows dynamic DNS updater. Please send any feedback to mitch@bluecrow.net 22 Feb 2006 This project is in it's extreme infancy. I just finished the update.php and update-functions.php pages today after working on them a bit at a time over the past week. =========================================================================== To be done: HOWTO: Install diyddns on a server =========================================================================== HOWTO: Install and pre-configure the DynDNS client. Note: This will soon be part of an automated install process. 1. Install the DynDNS client. Run it once, cancel the wizard and then close the application. You will have to right click on the system tray icon and select Exit to get it to close all the way. 2. Open the following file using notepad or your favorite text editor. notepad %HOMEDRIVE%\%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Kana Solution\DynDNS Updater\DynDNS.ini 3. In the [Options] section, add the following line: IsDynDNS=0 4. Save and close the file. 5. Run DynDNS again, and we can now setup our custom service. =========================================================================== HOWTO: Configure the client 1. Download the self-hosted-ssl.conf and save it to the DynDNS program folder. 2. Open DynDNS Updater. 3. Click on the Settings button on the Info tab. 4. Click the Add button on the Groups tab. 5. Give your group a name. You can pick this at random as it has no bearing on the service. 6. Click on the Option tab. 7. In the Provider blank, type self-hosted. 8. Click the ... button to the right of the Profile blank. 9. Select the self-hosted-ssl.conf file we downloaded earlier and click Open. 10. Uncheck Enable wildcard. 11. Click on the Provider tab. 12. Fill in your username and password. 13. Click the Add button. 14. Fill in your hostname (ie: host.domain.com). 15. Set system to custom. 16. Click OK. You are now back at the DynDNS Updater - Settings dialog. 17. Click OK again. You are now back at the main DynDNS Updater dialog. 18. Click on the Options tab and set your startup options. Make sure you enable automatic updates if you want it to do it's job automatically, and I'd recommend installing it as a service. 19. Finally click on the Info screen and then the Force Update button to check and see if things are working. If there is an error, go look in the Log tab.
